Combat is grounded and brutal, where enemies can and will fight unfairly with glee. The sense of accomplishment from finally beating a challenging foe or discovering a hidden area is immense. The blocky, near-textureless foes from the original become nightmarish abominations straight out of The Thing.

There are four different areas you need to clear to progress deeper into the Boletarian Palace — and it isn’t always clear what the best path to the end is. Yet, it’s that very quality that raises questions about whether or not Bluepoint really maximized its opportunities with this remake. It’s a better representation of the ways that the genre’s challenges so often come down to your ability to recognize and execute on an opportunity. With the summoning of The Old One, a colorless fog swept across the land, unleashing nightmarish creatures that hungered for human souls. Those whose souls were stripped from them, lost their minds – left only with the desire to attack the sane that remained. Now, Boletaria is cut off from the outside world, and the knights who dare penetrate the deep fog to free the land from its plight, are never seen again. As a lone warrior who has braved the baneful fog, you must face the hardest of challenges to earn the title “Slayer of Demons” and send The Old One back to its slumber.

Some people don’t have the patience to put enough time into Demon’s Souls to really get anything out of it, but those who avoid playing it out of fear that it may be too difficult should reconsider. There are countless Demon’s Souls guides online that will help players understand everything that’s going on, and there are many ways to make the game more forgiving. For example, there’s almost always a way to make Demon’s Souls boss fights a little easier, like figuring out a weakness to exploit or getting help from random players in the co-op mode.

There Are Many Exciting Possibilities For A Demon’s Souls Sequel

I don’t envy the team trying to figure out how their next project will be even better but I certainly look forward to it. The difference in Demon’s Souls is that there is much more of a focus on the worlds themselves, and less of a focus on the Bosses. As announced, Demon’s Souls will be released on November 12, 2020, alongside the PS5, making it one of the next-gen console’s launch titles. It was also confirmed that Demon’s Souls will be a PS5 exclusive, which means that it won’t be releasing to the Xbox or even the PS4. During the announcement, Bluepoint Games explained that the reason why the game won’t release to the PS4 is to allow the developers to focus and take full advantage of the technological marvels of the PS5.

It’s a glossier, more refined version of the PS3 classic, but one that stays true to the original’s gameplay and level of difficulty. Fortunately, this is happened, and when the remake of Demon’s Souls was introduced, I wanted to shout for joy.
